Wide Leg Jeans and Striped Top

That moment when you leave your phone in your pocket for detail shots

Happy Monday morning, everyone!

Talk about an excessive amount of pictures. I am honestly just so pleased with how they all turned out. Being as I’m usually hyper critical, I decided to seize the moment and post all the ones I felt deserved their moment in the spotlight.

It really comes down to the fact that I felt so confident in this outfit. The pride in putting together something I am proud of and felt good in.

We always are our own worst critics and it’s easy to get wrapped up in insecurities that limit us. Putting yourself out there on the internet is terrifying. All too often I find myself thinking about if  only I looked like Such and Such Blogger. If only my arms were more toned, if my eyes were bigger, my lips fuller… It’s such a constant stream of negativity that you only notice when you’re suddenly not thinking about it.

I feel like I’ve just sort of accepted it as a part of living, wistfully scrolling through my Instagram feed with the vain hope that I could be more like the people I idolize.

A toxic mindset like that won’t help me achieve any of my goals, though. Authenticity is the name of the game. The difference between being inspired by someone else’s work, and trying to emulate it.

It’s all such a delicate rope to balance on, but slowly I’ve been getting my footing.  Time and trial and error, and all that jazz. It really all does make a difference.

I really hope it’s showing as I post more and get more comfortable with it all.

I ordered these jeans online and anyone who has ever ordered jeans without trying them on knows the fear that comes with it. But, by some miracle, they fit perfectly. Cinderella’s glass slipper perfectly.

Denim is a fabric that flatters everyone, but that doesn’t mean every jean will be flattering. Three traits of an ultra flattering pant came together with these. Structured, high waist, wide leg jeans are almost too good to be true. So when I got these on I was over the moon with how great I instantly felt. There’s nothing like a great pair of wide leg jeans to make you feel like you can unashamedly take pictures in front of a bunch of tourists.

The pocket details and the belt not only elevate the denim, but really give the illusion of a smaller waist and thighs while the back pockets prevent your butt from looking flat or too low. The frayed details of the hems really keep it modern.

I got my shirt when I went to Nordstrom just to do some window shopping (ha!) and I had to get it. The second I saw it I knew it would pair perfectly with my jeans. And we all know I love a good feminine detail and the bow really satisfied that.

What I love most about the shirt is the waffle knit fabric, it’s sturdy without feeling too heavy for the summer. I am not always a fan of very gauzy like materials. I don’t like how they feel on the skin, and during summer it’s hard to find clothes that stray away from them. This is my ideal summer top.

For shoes I found (what I thought) was a great deal on a pair of wedges from H&M. I was unaware until after we were done with the shoot that they were two different shoes! They were held together with the security wire so I didn’t pay attention. I just assumed they wouldn’t pair different shoes together (but mistakes happen and I get that). The colors are only slightly different and in the florescent lighting it really is hard to tell. What is obvious is the two different straps. But I have a terrible habit of not trying shoes on, so I was completely oblivious haha.

Luckily, it is only really obvious in the last picture. It is a shame because they are ridiculously comfortable and I really wish they could have worked out. c’est la vie 🙂

Well, I am up way past my bedtime and in an effort to prevent any more ramblings I’m going to wrap this up!

Thank you all so much for reading, I hope you’re all able to enjoy the sunshine this week.

Xo,

Emily

Happy happy Monday, ya’ll!

It’s been a week lacking in motivation. Maybe it is because the initial high of starting something new has worn off; the shiny new object has a bit of tarnish to it. But, inspiration is a fickle thing to rely on. Sometimes the things we love the most are not always fun, which is a lesson that is always sour to remember.

The thing is, when you lose motivation it doesn’t mean you should be losing discipline. Though, admittedly, they do seem to go hand in hand. Discipline is pushing through the unpleasant parts until you remember why you started in the first place, eventually you’ll find your way back to that giddy inspiration filled feeling!

I really believe that being self disciplined through the plateaus is the catalyst for really amazing work 🙂

Searching through Pinterest I found a short quote that really resonated with me, “discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments”. If anyone knows who to credit it to, let me know!

I will say that from my week of procrastination I really rekindled my love of reading. In high school I read about 3 books a week! Now I average… Well I’m too ashamed it admit it. I love the little escapism of a really great book, so I’m so happy I actually am picking away at the ever-growing pile haha

Does anyone have a book recommendation? I will never be able to resist adding to the list.

It’s the end of June and it’s really and truly starting to feel like summer. The day we took these pictures I knew it’d be the last time I’d be able to wear a sweater comfortably all day until fall rolls around. Always bitter sweet as I do love a good sweater.

Does anyone else suffer from the problem of going shopping for summer clothes but instead you end up buying the sweaters that are on sale? It’s so easy to justify, too, living in Washington. I can wear a sweater 9 months out of the year, it’s really an investment.

I was really feeling lazy this day especially so I paired it with a pair of comfy jeggings (because I figured if I was going to wear pants I might as well be comfortable) and my new Nanette Lepore slip on black mules that I’m just crazy about. No work but instantly elevating! The bow and pointed toe really sets them apart from other flats.

I’m a big supporter of all things that allow me to be fashionably slothful hahah

I finished it off with this cute little purse that I saw in JCPenny as I was making my way to Sephora. It was so affordable that I just didn’t have it in me to pass it up. I love how summery and bright it feels! It really made the gray sweater seem more seasonally appropriate.

Tell me in the comments what your favorite summer time accessory is!

I hope you all get to enjoy the summer sunshine this week 🙂

Six Lipsticks Perfect for Summer

Happy Monday, everyone! How did we all do with keeping the life balanced this week?

I feel like I failed at my own personal challenge to be more present. My goal was to turn off my phone at 9pm and finish my night without looking at social media… But I just couldn’t seem to consistently do it. Which is giving me a sense of frustration with myself.

It is so hard not to get caught up in seeing how many likes or follows I’ve gained, but I know it’s better for my sanity to have a few hours to disconnect.

But a new week means a new chance to do better!

This week has been dreary with a constant drizzle, it feels less like summer as this month goes by. Sometimes you have to create your own sunshine! 🙂 I’ve found that the perfect lipstick makes me feel summer ready in no time!

I’ve picked out my favorite six lipsticks perfect for summer time!

This Tom Ford Ultra Rich Lip Color is the epitome of the perfect summer lipstick! It isn’t super opaque, but easy to build, it’s a great coral shade that brightens any look. Gorgeously luminous, it is ideal in the summer when I want hydration and every inch of my face to be dewy.

Charlotte Tilbury has some of the most glamorous packaging! And anyone who knows me knows, packaging goes a long way for me. The Matte Revolution Pillow Talk is surprisingly hydrating and such a lovely nude that it’s just an enhanced version of your own lip, making it looks so full and plump!

Yves Saint Laurent’s Rouge Pur Couture in Rouge Vermillon is a raspberry satin finish that gives a bit of edge without being too dark for the summer.

Revlon Super Lustrous in Pink in the Afternoon was a dupe for Audrey Hepburn’s lipstick in the taxi scene of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It is such a pretty pink and it never hurts to feel a little like Audrey 😉

Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche in Cayenne is a vibrant red that instantly draws the eye and is also hydrating! This is a natural oil based lipstick, so know that it transfers like nobodies business. Implement any tricks you have for making a lipstick transfer proof.

Last, but certainly not least, Clinique Pop Matte in Ruby Pop has a primer infused into it to make it easy to apply. The thing I love most about reds is that they are an easy way to elevate simple makeup. They transition so well from day to night, too.

I don’t normally love mattes, especially during the summer when I want to feel hydrated, but what I’ve found is using a lip mask (like this one from Bite Beauty) stops any of them from feeling overly dry or tight!

I hope this post was helpful and brings a little sunshine your way!

See you next week!
